Financial Assistance


Education Trusts

Here is a list of some of the Educational Trusts that you might want to approach for assistance. Remember that there are many other trusts that offer help. You could go to the reference section of a public library where they are likely to have more information. Ask about books that list Educational Trusts and Charities or general Grant Awarding Trust and funds.

Africa Education Trust

Eligibility: KIS Learners/Clients of African descent living in England; especially refugees  
from Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Africa, Somalia and Sudan. Offers assistance to both full and part-time study, including fees and maintenance.

Lawrence Atwell’s Charity

Eligibility: British citizens and refugees who have Indefinite leave to remain, age 16 to 26 whose parents income is not more than £25,000 per year (add £2,750 for each dependant child under the age of 18).

Grants for essential, vocational courses which lead into employment.

Sir John Cass’s Foundation

Eligibility: Students between the ages of 19 and 25 before the start of the course, who have been residents of the Inner London Boroughs of: Camden; City of London; Greenwich; Hackney; Hammersmith; & Fulham; Islington; Kensington & Chelsea; Lambeth; Lewisham; Newham; Southwark; Tower Hamlets; Wandsworth and Westminster for at least 3 years before the start of the academic year in which the course begins.

Grants for Further Education (FE) are considered above GCSE level (e.g. BTEC National Diploma, City & Guilds craft qualification, A-levels, some Art Foundation courses) and can be for fees or maintenance.

The Churches Commission on overseas students hardship fund

Eligibility: Students from developing countries, on final year courses, who intend to return to a developing country. Awards are offered to assist the completion of a course, in the form of grants or smaller emergency grants.

The Enfield Church Trust for Girls

Eligibility: Young women (especially those who are disadvantaged) who live, work or attend school, college or university in the Ancient Parish of Enfield. Educational grants for: course fees where no grant is available from the Local Education Authority (LEA), childcare for single parents, books, study and travel abroad.

The Family Welfare Association

They Administer a number of educational charities. They may be able to advise on appropriate charities to which an application can be made.

The Hornsey Parochial Charity

Eligibility: Students under 25 years who were born, or have lived for at least a year in, the Ancient Parish of Hornsey (covering most of N8 and parts of N2, N4, N6 and N10). Supplementary grants to help with books, equipment, fees and travel.

The Laura Ashley Foundation

Eligibility: Students aged 18 to 50. Assistance is for fees only on courses at FE colleges such as A levels, Access, BTEC and Foundation. No grants for Higher Education, counselling, dance or drama.

The Old Enfield Charitable Trust

Eligibility: People in need who live in the Ancient Parish of Enfield. Grants for those at school, college and university towards the cost of fees, travel, clothing and maintenance, etc.

The Priscilla Ingram Trusts

Eligibility: Students under 21 years who have either been pupils of schools in the former boroughs of Wood Green and Southgate, or who are living in these areas.
Educational grants to help with books, equipment, clothing, travel, college / university fees, study abroad, or to supplement existing grants.

The Tottenham Grammar School Foundation

Eligibility: Students under 25 years who live in, or whose parents live in, or have attended school in Haringey. Assistance towards education expenses, such as clothing, tools, instruments, books or equipment when at university, Further Education (FE) colleges or other recognised educational institutions. Usually a single award only.
Closing date for applications: 30 November.
