Jonathan O'Dea stages a solo show of his abstract paintings at Hammersmith's Irish Cultural Centre.

Down The Barrel Of A Tin Whistle
Oil On Canvas, 88 x 88cm
Through his abstract paintings, O’Dea attempts to reconcile two opposite environments, his urban life in London and his rural experience of County Mayo, Ireland, where he was born. Through surface, texture and blended colours, he expresses and articulates a distinct inner journey, the migrants search for a landscape where he can settle and an inner longing for the elements of a spiritual terrain.
Originally, from Castlebar in County Mayo, Ireland, Artist Jonathan O’Dea moved to London at the age of 12. He studied Art and Design at St Martin’s Art Collage and he attained a degree in Irish Studies with History from The London Metropolitan University. Since 2002 O'Dea has had over 40 exhibitions throughout Ireland and the UK. This year alone he has already had 3 solo shows. Jonathan O’Dea received nominations for The Turner Prize for his exhibition at the City Hall, Greater London Authority in 2006.
Keeping It Simlpe Training helped Jonathan to set himself up as a professional artist after graduation. Sean Headley, Chief Executive of Keeping It Simple Training said "We are delighted to be a formal sponsor of Jonathan’s exhibition, and additionally to have provided support to such a talented emerging young artist".
