The Programme
The new “Be Inspired” provision is a modular programme, structured to provide an alternative educational provision for year 10 & 11 students for who mainstream education is not suitable. This pre-16 provision sets out to combine conventional mainstream approaches with that of the unconventional.
The programme has been designed to improve young people's long-term prospects and aspirations and to reduce the risk of marginalisation due to possible exclusion from mainstream schooling.
The programme draws on the provision of conventional curriculum education with a personal development alternative curricular approach.
It will be offered throughout the academic year, across core terms, Autumn, Spring & Summer with appropriate school holidays acknowledged therein.
Our Aim
To provide a combination of conventional education coupled with personal development and social skills that will enable young people to make the effective transition to further education, training or employment in a standard 12-week rolling provision.
Programme Structure
The programme will run to closely follow the academic year to enable students to fulfil obligatory education contact time, but will only be offered on a termly basis. The project satisfies the statutory limitations for pre-16 year old students in secondary education. Students on the programme will be entitled to school holidays.
Qualifications
Keeping It Simple Training offers the City & Guilds' Profile of Achievement, AQA Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3 in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT coupled with embedded "Skills For Life" certification on the "Be Inspired" provision. In addition students can be offered the opportunity to work towards AQA Unit Accreditation in various social skills areas such as "Anger Management" and "Teambuilding & Problem Solving".
Objectives
KIS strives to deliver a quality and effective training & intervention programme to benefit students referred to the programme. The KIS tutorial team have set objectives for the “Be Inspired” provision agreed with the partner schools as follows:
- To deliver English and Mathematics AQA Unit Certificates
- To deliver English Entry Level AQA Certificates
- To deliver AQA Entry Level Certificates for AQA
- To develop students' soft skills through a personal development approach
- To enable students to gain experience of employment through work placement during the provision
- To increase student attendance and attainment on the programme compared with that of mainstream education
- To provide careers advice and linkage with the local Connexions strategy
- To enable students to learn in a respectful and constructive environment
AQA Unit Award Scheme
This scheme recognises the achievement of students in non-qualification context and is delivered as a central aspect of the “Be Inspired” provision. Centres are able to choose or develop units that are validated and are then delivered to the students. Units cover curriculum areas alongside personal development units. Each unit varies in the delivery time required to complete the outcomes of that unit.
Students are awarded with certification for any unit they complete, which is then added to their National Record of Achievement.
Location
The programme is delivered at our Tottenham Hale Centre for Learning, Sentinel House. "Be Inspired" is currently offered to students initially from Haringey, with further available places offered to neighbouring LEA’s in Waltham Forest & Enfield. This location provides a relaxed and friendly environment that is non-threatening. The centre has classrooms equipped with I.C.T facilities, learning resources, a range of interactive tools designed to engage students coupled with the standard education tools required to provide an appropriate setting for the delivery of the provision.
Referral to, & cost of the “Be Inspired” Provision
