THE GREAT BRITISH CHEF

The BBC series “The Great British Menu” gives rise to a real British star, Chef Adebola Adeshina. To be aired Wednesday 26th March on BBC2 18.30 p.m

In the past couple of years the UK's top chefs have undertaken the biggest culinary challenges having cooked for the Queen and convinced the French that we can match them with gastronomic prowess. However, in the new series of the Great British Menu, they're out to prove to the world that we are up there with the best when it comes to modern British cuisine

Enter a crop of the new generation of super British chefs, championing local, fresh produce. One of which, is North Londoner Adebola Adeshina, known to most as Ade. He is a bright young talent with a great future in the world of food and television. His natural presence and charm is compared to an early Jamie Oliver - with a similar jokey charisma.

In this series, the emphasis is on modern British cooking and that is reflected in Ade’s cuisine. Ade is Chef Patron and owner with Fabrizio Russo of The Lock Restaurant in Tottenham Hale, North London, where he creates high-flying modern British food with global accents. The Lock has received outstanding reviews from the prestigious Michelin, Harden’s and AA restaurant guides. Setting up one of London’s best restaurants in an area where no top restaurants have ever been before might be considered slightly daring to say the very least. However, The Lock is thriving there and stands out in the borough of Haringey as one of the real gems of London.

In this series of the Great British Menu, the chefs will be competing for the opportunity to cook a fantastic four-course dinner to be held in June, at the restaurant at the top of the iconic Gherkin building in London. The host is a chef who is responsible for putting contemporary British cooking on the global culinary map - Heston Blumenthal - and his guests will include top chefs from around the world along with gourmets and celebrities who represent a cross section of modern Britain.

On Wednesday 27th March, Ade is going head to head with some of Britain’s established Michelin starred attractions in the form of Atul Kochhar, the spice master and Jason Atherton, one of Gordon Ramsay’s successful charges. The local Tottenham hero will be up against it, but whatever happens, he will undoubtedly put his restaurant, cuisine and Tottenham Hale on the map.

And its Tottenham Hale where Ade aims to gain his first Michelin star, which would be a great achievement, truly bringing the taste of the West End to North London and aiding the regeneration of the surrounding area.
