KIS Training appoints Stuart Turner as new Chief Executive
Stuart brings to KIS Training a wealth of experience in organisational and business development with over 18 years in the adult training and education sector. He has spent the past 10 years working at both strategic and operational levels on the implementation of government educational and skills initiatives. During this time he has held positions with Working Links (Head of Skills, National Development), the UK Management Standards Centre (Head of Management Standards), and the UK Creative & Cultural Sector Skills Council (Qualifications & Standards Manager), and a curriculum development committee member within the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. Stuart has also been closely involved in the Strategic Ministry of Defence Leadership and Management development of the Fire Services and has been a member of the UK Standards and Learning and Qualifications Board, feeding directly into Government departments and regulatory authorities.
In previous roles, Stuart has been Head of National Skills Development for Working Links, Stuart where he was responsible for the development of skills and innovative skills’ initiatives to drive Working Links’ strategy on the UK’s skills agenda in tackling social deprivation and providing social cohesion; Head of the UK Management Standards Centre, the lead standard setting body for management and leadership standards and qualifications in the UK, where he provided strategic leadership implementing government educational agendas; and formerly was Project Manager at the Sector Skills Council responsible for the development of qualifications . including the 14-19 Diplomas, apprenticeships, Framework for Achievements (now the Qualifications and Credit Framework) and National Occupational Standards.
Prior to this, Stuart spent 15 years in the Royal Air Force initially as a fire fighter and latterly as an accreditation manager responsible for training, curriculum and accreditation. He is an expert on employer standards, is a full qualified and experienced External Verifier and has designed, developed and delivered a range of courses including BTEC, NVQ, Apprenticeships and Foundation Degree courses for the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Air Force.
As a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management, with two military commendations for leadership, Stuart was also a member of the RAF PR team responsible for presenting the RAF to government ministers and civic dignitaries throughout Europe.
Stuart joins KIS Training at a crucial stage in its development as the organisation celebrates the 10th anniversary of its inception in June 1999. The organisation has grown steadily over the past ten years to a current turnover of £4m, with 40 staff delivering a range of employability skills training and work-based learning across all sectors. Following on from Sean Headley’s lead in building and establishing the organisation, Stuart will continue the work of leading the organisation through the next phase of grown and development.
