KIS Business in SKY One Flagship final

Monday, 11th December '06

KIS supported young entrepreneur, Paul Sheedy who set up Product Designer Ltd in 2001 with the help of one-to-one business advice & training from KIS, has recently made it to the final of Sky One’s “The Big Idea” programme with his invention – ‘The Spinning Straw”. The concluding programme, aired on Sky One on the 25th November 2006, featured five national finalists who each had designed innovative, cutting-edge new products. Although Paul did not win the overall competition – he was an impressive judges’ favourite and ranked in second place.

Paul said of the experience: “I re-mortgaged my house & my life to take the plunge with “The Spinning Straw” and although I didn’t win - Disney have picked up the concept and are now seriously taking the product into production”. Paul also reported on the long, arduous & expensive road to protecting the design of his Woosher straw and has offered his time to invest in assisting new enterprises who may need valuable patent & copyright advice.

Said Sean Headley, Chief Executive at KIS: “I remember Paul and his company when they were in the early stages of development – his achievements are remarkable – from humble beginnings to a successful business to rival even the bigger players.” He went on to say “the team at KIS are delighted to be associated with Paul and his very successful design venture”.
